Handwoven Dark Blue Cotton Scarf

This is a handwoven scarf from Thailand, more precisely Doi Pui in Chiang Mai province.

The Hmong people have been living in this region for centuries, but originate in China. Unique geometrical patterns on these scarves are typical for their artistic style.

They manually apply beeswax to the cotton with a small pen. Next, they dye the fabric indigo blue. After which it is washed with hot water. This way the wax melts and the pattern appears.

Small variations in the pattern are possible as this is handwork.
