Handmade Scarves – Artisan Woven Cotton Scarf

When it’s cold outside, this artisan woven cotton scarf is precisely what you need! Thickly textured and luscious, it’s guaranteed to keep you warm during the chilliest of days. Measuring an average 180×50 cm, this artisan cotton scarf will be just the right size to tuck into your overcoat or vest.

After her career as a school teacher, Mrs. Tiptanya threw herself full-time at her weaving passion. But not just that! She also gathered a group of retired artisan weavers, encouraging them to return to their artisan trade. Initially reluctant, once the ladies saw a demand for their products, motivation swiftly propelled them to produce new designs. This artisan woven cotton scarf is a true testament to the know-how, and traditional knowledge passed down from generation to generation in Thailand.

True love for their craft lies at the origin of their involvement, with the additional income surely welcome as well! Do you feel similar activity groups should be started in Belgium? We’d love to hear your thoughts on the matter. Do you know such a group, or are you part of one? If so, let us know about it!

The natural properties of cotton

Cotton fiber is soft, absorbent, and breathable, making it perfectly suitable for clothing and our artisan cotton scarves, as these are traditionally worn close to the skin. Thermoregulation, or proper conduction of heat, ensures that your body stays cool in summer and warm in winter. Cotton is also non-allergenic, not an unimportant fact for people with sensitive skin!

Due to the unique fiber structure, cotton scarves breathe better and are more comfortable than oil-based synthetic neckwear. Cotton holds up to 27 times its weight in water and becomes even stronger when wet. There is also no risk of any static cling with cotton fiber, as it can’t hold an electric charge. You can read all about it right here!
